The
Var is where the finest musical
canes in the world are grown,
thanks to its very mild climate,
with lots of sunshine and the
Mistral wind.
The
roots of MARION Ltd’s
canes were planted in our plantation
a very long time ago, and have
multiplied over the years in
the soil.
Young
shoots appear every year, and after a
few weeks their diameter is taken and
will remain the same until cutting. By
the time they are one year old, the canes
have already reached their final size
(around 5 to 6 metres).
We
harvest them manually during the winter,
and only those canes which are two years
old are cut, in order to guarantee a high
quality product.
The
canes are cut one by one using shears
to ensure they are not damaged.
During
the harvest, we check all the young shoots,
keeping only those with a diameter appropriate
for the future manufacture of musical
reeds.
All
our canes are sorted and selected with
great precision. They are then gathered
in bunches and assembled into bell shapes
before being cleaned.
MARION
Ltd exposes the canes to the Var sun for
browning, and then stores them in ventilated
warehouses where they dry naturally for
two years.
Once
drying is complete, we remove the knots
in order to obtain perfect tubes.
Depending
on their diameter and thickness, these
tubes will be used in the manufacture
of the different types of reeds. |
